RHD in Guitar Hero 5?!?!?!

Postby bluesrocker5 on Thu Jun 11, 2009 3:15 pm

So........ the guys have a song coming out on Guitar Hero 5.........

"I think that whole thing (guitar hero, rockband) is kind of sad. I think they need to make a video game that uses a real guitar and really teaches kids how to play guitar. Learning how to play a plastic controller shaped like a guitar... seems like a huge waste of time."
"If you're gonna spend eight hours obsessing over rockband or guitar hero... I mean just pick up a real guitar for fucks sake."
- Nate Barnes and Daniel Sproul of Rose Hill Drive

That quote is from an interview they did that I saw on a website a while back. Oops!

I may have lost all my faith in everything good in this world.

Its just for publicity. Once your song is on one of those games you are pretty much reserved, if nothing else, a small bout of fame. I think it will help these guys to get more attention. So as much as I don't think they should sell-out like this, once they reach a larger crowd hopefully they won't need to go to such means.

The games aren't THAT bad anyways.... They may have a stupid concept but they expose younger generations to great music that they might otherwise not hear.

The music world has changed, and getting a song on GH or Rock Band is one of the few bright spots anyone looks for these days. It's a guaranteed bump for that single and seems to help sales of the back catalog. In a day when Pearl Jam is making semi-exclusive deals w/ Target just to get decent distribution for their new CD, I really can't fault RHD for taking this deal...no matter what the guys said a few years ago (when they were playing XBox daily as if their lives depended on it, so ha!)

I've got a 13-year-old boy who plays (real) guitar and got into The Who, Boston, and other good stuff just because he liked it in Rock Band. It can definitely inspire people to move towards real musicianship, and if not, then it's just a great fun time-waster, harmless like karaoke. I hope RHD gets more tunes for download!

BTW, it was confirmed by Activision that Rose Hill Drive's "Sneak Out" will be on the Guitar Hero 5 default track list. Nice going, guys!

Guitar Hero 5 is out, with RHD's "Sneak Out" sure to become the new radio-friendly unit shifter. Here's an article in the Boulder Daily Camera:

Lotsa good quotes by Professor Nathaniel Barnes, DDD.
